Las Vegas has a reputation as an adult playground, but it’s not all casinos and nightlife. The city offers plenty of family-friendly things to do, from shows, amusement park rides, attractions, museums, exhibitions and much more. Many are even free.

So, what is a “kid” in Las Vegas? Generally anyone under the age of 18, but many people under 21 feel like they are treated like a child. You must be 21 or older to gamble, loiter in a casino, drink, visit day/nightclubs, visit bars, purchase tobacco products or cannabis, rent a hotel room in most resorts, and more.

Curfews for persons under 18, not accompanied by one of their parents or guardian in the City of Las Vegas and Clark County. LVMPD Rules

We have broken this down in the following categories:

  • Hotels to choose with kids
  • Is the Las Vegas Strip good to visit with kids?
  • Is Fremont Street good to visit with kids?
  • Attractions that are kid friendly
  • Museums & Exhibitions that are kid friendly
  • Shows that are kid friendly
  • Sports, Movies and more that are kid friendly

Hotels in Las Vegas with Kids

Almost every hotel in Las Vegas allows minors to stay with their parents or legal guardian in their room, except Circa and El Cortez (both are 21+).

Some properties actually cater to families with kids, including Bellagio, Circus Circus, Excalibur, Flamingo, Four Seasons, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, New York-New York, The Orleans, South Point, Vdara and others, including many time-share properties.

Kids love pool time and some have water slides, lazy rivers and a shallow area for the little ones. The pool season generally runs from March to October with all pools open. Some properties keep at least one pool open year-round that kids can visit, including ARIA, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Park MGM, Resorts World, Venetian/Palazzo, Wynn/Encore and a few more.

Las Vegas Strip with Kids

The Las Vegas Strip stretches 4.2 miles with casinos, resorts, shopping centers, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, stores and much more. Generally, it is very safe to walk, but always use common sense, like you would in any large city. Wear comfortable shoes.

When you visit the Strip with your kids, they may be exposed to things they are not used to seeing. People extremely drunk or high, cards and advertising signs for “escorts” with scantily clad women and people soliciting “tips” to take a photo with them. These include Showgirls, costume characters (Mickey Mouse, Sponge Bob, Spiderman, Big Apes and more). None of these people are regulated and it is best to avoid them.

Remember, when you came to Las Vegas with your kids, you made it a “family” vacation. Do not subject your children to a midnight return to your room because you want to do adult activities, but your kids are screaming or sleeping in their stroller because they are bored and tired.

Fremont Street with Kids

Fremont Street is in Downtown Las Vegas. The majority of the casinos are located on the Fremont Street Experience, which is a five-block pedestrian mall and attraction with a light show on an overhead canopy and live free entertainment on three stages.

Just like on the Las Vegas Strip, your kids may be exposed to things they are not used to seeing, but Fremont Street is much more extreme. There are many costumed characters, men and women barely dressed, lewd signs and other things, including men wearing very revealing thongs or baby diapers, women with exposed breasts wearing pasties or tape covering their nipples (in nun costumes) and more.

There are not many attractions or things for kids to do, except watching the Viva Vision Light Show, live bands and Dancing DJ’s. Tip: Bring ear protection for your children. Both Circa and the El Cortez prohibit anyone from under 21 from entering their properties.

There is no reason for very young kids to visit and it is up to the parents to decide if older children would enjoy it. Generally, it would be best to visit during the day. Things really ramp-up at night and weekends.
