“Viva Vision” Renovation Update
The Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas continues the $32 million renovation of Viva Vision, which is the world’s largest single video screen. The Viva Vision light show is an LED display on the “canopy” that runs along the Fremont Street Experience from Main Street to Fourth Street. It features different shows at the top of each hour, starting at dusk.
The upgraded Viva Vision canopy will illuminate the pedestrian mall with 16,433,152 pixels and 5,000 Nits, making it seven-times brighter than the existing canopy with four-times the resolution. Installation of the LED modules is about half completed. They are installing the new Viva Vision panels in sections, so the current shows continue. Completion is expected by New Years Eve.
Margaritaville Restaurant adding new patio
SLS Las Vegas Opens New Premium Gaming Lounge & Bar
SLS Las Vegas on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip recently opened a brand new Premium Gaming Lounge and Bar called Infinity. It is in the space that formally had the Katsuya Japanese Restaurant that closed in March. SLS Las Vegas will be rebranded Sahara Las Vegas in the fall. The SLS Las Vegas is owned by the Meruelo Group.
Hard Rock Hotel to close for most of 2020
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will shut down entirely in the first week of February, just after Super Bowl weekend, re-launching in late 2020 as Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
Terry Fator Cuts His Band from Las Vegas Strip Shows
Ventriloquist, impressionist, and stand-up comedian Terry Fator, who this spring celebrated his 10th anniversary at The Mirage Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, told drummer John Wackerman, trumpet player Tom De Libero, guitarist Jim Buck, sax player Steve Dawson and bassist Donnie Castleman, they will be let go on August 26th.
The show will continue with keyboardist and Fator’s road sidekick Bill Zappia performing the backing music along with recorded tracks. The band has been part of Fator’s act since Day 1. Good luck to these talented musicians. The Mirage is owned by MGM Resorts International.
Venetian Resort & Casino Construction Updates
The Venetian Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip is removing a portion of the poker room that will become more slot machines or a new casino pit. It still remains one of the largest poker rooms on the Las Vegas Strip. They are also replacing a large section of tile in the front of the resort. The Venetian is owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.
Strat Hotel, Casino & Skypod Construction Updates
The Strat Hotel, Casino and Skypod continues the remodel of the casino, rooms and more. They have finished the sign on the Stratosphere Tower. The casino looks very nice with floating blue “clouds”. The south end of the casino has been remodeled. They are now working on the center portion of the casino, near the cashiers cage. The Strat is owned by Golden Entertainment.
New Pedestrian Bridge over Strip Update
Construction continues on the new pedestrian bridge over the Las Vegas Strip from Park MGM to the Hard Rock Cafe. This bridge is needed because of the added foot traffic from T-Mobile Arena, Park Theater and nearby casinos. In 2020, they plan construction on four more pedestrian bridges crossing Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, on the far north end of the Strip.
Moneyline Sports Bar & Book at Park MGM Construction Update
Money Line Sports Bar & Book at Park MGM remains closed. Construction curtains remain in place, and construction continues. Money Line Sports Bar & Book opened the week of March 12th, 2018 and closed the week of July 14th, 2019. Sports bets at Park MGM can be currently made at a temporary location at the cashiers cage or on your mobile app. Park MGM is owned by MGM Resorts International.
