Why post this now? Because, if you plan to book a room that overlooks the Tropicana implosion, you need to book ASAP.

The Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel & Casino closed on April 2, 2024 after a 67-year run on the Las Vegas Strip. The majority of the 35-acre site has been demolished, but the two 22-story hotel towers need to be imploded. This is scheduled to take place October 9, 2024 at 2:30am.

They closed to make way for 9-acres of the land to be used for the planned $1.5 billion New Las Vegas Stadium, for the relocating Oakland Athletics. They hope to start playing in their new stadium for the 2028 MLB season as the Las Vegas Athletics.

The Tropicana Las Vegas owner Bally’s Corp. and the A’s will host an October 8 celebratory event that will include a drone and fireworks show from Fireworks by Grucci, according to Bally’s Corp. (The press statement is confusing, as the implosion is scheduled October 9 at 2:30am, not October 8).

So, where is the best place to watch the Tropicana Implosion?

It would be best to rent a hotel room October 8 at a nearby resort that faces the Tropicana. This could be hard to secure, because most Las Vegas hotels do not guarantee a certain view (only room type). Try to book a room on a high floor.

Some of the best views would be at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in the Royal Tower facing east. The MGM Grand Resort & Casino has several room options with good views, including select rooms in the South Tower facing west or south, or a Skyloft suite.

New York-New York Hotel & Casino would have some decent views if you book a room facing south or east and in the Empire Tower facing south. Luxor Hotel & Casino in a room facing north or east. OYO Hotel & Casino will have excellent views in rooms facing west.

The pedestrian overhead bridges and sidewalks in front of the Tropicana are already closed. Other bridges, sidewalks and roads should be closed the night of the implosion.

If not renting a room, no problem. You should be able to get a good view from the sidewalks in front of the MGM Grand, Excalibur and Luxor. The outside parking lot in front of the Excalibur would also be good if they do not block it off. The same with the Roman Catholic Shrine on Reno Ave and outside New York-New York facing Tropicana.

There can be some great places to to take photos with a zoom lens or watch with binoculars. These would be select rooms in Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in a Strip View room facing north or east. Harry Reid International Airport on the top floor of the terminal 1 parking garage. (see photo below)

Perhaps the best place to watch the Tropicana implosion is live on your TV, with many different camera angles. If you are near the implosion, be sure to not breath the dust cloud and be safe.

The Tropicana will be the first Las Vegas Strip resort to be imploded since the Riviera Hotel & Casino in 2016.

The two towers at Tropicana to be imploded October 9.
