“Haunted” Hotel Apache OPEN at Binion’s

Hotel Apache opened at Binion’s Gambling Hall in Downtown Las Vegas on July 29th.

From Binion’s Gambling Hall: “The Hotel Apache was originally opened by the Silvagni family in 1932. The family came to Las Vegas as a cement contractor for the Hoover Dam project and realized the workers needed a place to get away from their work and the heat of the desert. It was the first in Las Vegas to air-condition its hotel lobby and have air curtains at the entrance to the hotel.
The hotel was eventually acquired by Benny Binion and was the place to stay for many Hollywood movie stars like Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Lucille Ball. It was also the first in Las Vegas with an electrically operated elevator, fully carpeted casino and made poker a mainstream casino game.
Over the course of over 90 years, the historic Hotel Apache and Binion’s Gambling Hall have had many reports of spirited guests in residence who make it clear that the Hotel Apache and Binion’s Gambling Hall still belong to them. Several employees have been touched, nudged, report sightings of figures; and ghost hunters have reported high levels on their EMF meters and motion sensors along with mediums seeing actual images of past owners’ family members.
Book your next stay at the Historic Haunted Hotel Apache and let us know what you experience.”

Wynn Fountains Closed for Maintenance

The Wynn Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip drained their lake in the front that featured a fountain show timed to music.  Is it because of the Las Vegas grasshopper invasion?  Unknown.  Here is a look of the fountains in a drained lake.

Viva Vision Light Show Upgrade Continues

The Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas has started its $32 million renovation of Viva Vision, which is the world’s largest single video screen. The Viva Vision light show is an LED display on the “canopy” that runs along the Fremont Street Experience from Main Street to Fourth Street. It features different shows at the top of each hour, starting at dusk.

The upgraded Viva Vision canopy will illuminate the pedestrian mall with 16,433,152 pixels and 5,000 Nits, making it seven-times brighter than the existing canopy with four-times the resolution. Installation of the LED modules has started over the Main Street Stage by the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino. They will be installing the new Viva Vision panels in sections, so the current shows will continue. Completion is expected by New Years Eve.

They are currently working on the section between Binion’s Gambling Hall and the Fremont Hotel and Casino.  Some areas are closed to the street performers at this time.

Caesars Palace Coliseum Construction Continues

Country superstar Keith Urban will be the first artist to perform in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace after the theater remodel is complete.  He will bring his “Graffiti U World Tour” into the theater September 6th and 7th.

Urban’s shows will be the first to be performed in the Colosseum since Reba and Brooks & Dunn performed on July 6th.  The Colosseum was originally built for Celine Dion, who had her final show on June 8th.  It was previously announced that Rod Stewart’s performance on September 18th would be the first.

Venetian Resort Remodeling Poker Room

The construction curtains were up at the Venetian Resort & Casino in the poker room on August 4th.  The carpet was removed and a large portion of the poker room remains open.  Also, the Venetian Theater remains boarded up.  That project should wrap-up soon.

Flamingo Adding New Star on the Vegas Strip

The Flamingo Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip is adding a new star in front of the casino.  They did not announce who the star is for?  Pure guess, Donny & Marie?  Their hit show on the Las Vegas Strip is ending after 11 years on November 16th. The show opened at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in September 2008. The Flamingo Showroom is named for the duo.

Strat Hotel, Casino & Skypod Adding New Sign

On August 4th, nothing. On August 5th, the Strat added the first letter “R” to their giant marquee on the base of the tower.  When they said they were removing the Stratosphere name, they were not kidding.
