Earlier this week, VitalVegas.com had a story about “surge pricing” at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino Gift Shop on the Las Vegas Strip. This is absolutely correct, and it has been in place for years. This is not just at the Excalibur, but at many Las Vegas casino gift shops and sundries stores. This was confirmed by over a dozen gift shop cashiers today.
The “surge pricing” takes place on peak visitation dates, holidays, large conventions, weekends and during special events. It does not include most items in the gift shops. It is mainly on alcoholic beverages (beer), chips, snacks and candy. If you notice, those items never have a price tag, but other items do.
It seems to take place at MGM Resorts International properties more frequently than the others. These include the MGM Grand, Park MGM, Bellagio, Aria, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Mirage, etc. Caesars Entertainment properties said that they vary rarely have “surge pricing”, but they do during major events, such as the Super Bowl, New Years Eve, etc.

Besides “surge pricing” at restaurants and gift shops and more in Las Vegas, do not forget about 4.7% “concession fees” at some places, including HEXX, Beer Park and more at the Paris Resort and Casino.
