Wynn to move $28 Million Popeye Statue to Encore Boston Harbor

The Wynn Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip is moving the statue of Popeye by artist Jeff Koons to Encore Boston Harbor on June 4th.  Steve Wynn bought the the statue at auction in May 2015 for $28 million, and it went on display at the resort in July 2015.

The neon-bright sculpture stands 6 feet, 5 inches tall and bears Koons’ bubble-pop art style. The 2,000-pound artwork is made from mirror-polished stainless steel and it is protected by a security guard 24/7.  Encore Boston Harbor is set to open on June 23rd.

It was rumored that Popeye will be replaced with the Jeff Koons Tulips sculpture display that was purchased by Steve Wynn in 2012 for $33.6 million. The Tulip sculpture was formally in front of the Wynn and Encore Theaters, where Popeye now stands.
