Golden Gate Hotel & Casino is located in Downtown Las Vegas on the Fremont Street Experience. It opened in 1906 as Hotel Nevada and was the first hotel in Las Vegas.
In 1931 it was renamed Sal Sagev (Las Vegas spelled backwards). In 1974 it was renamed Golden Gate, and it has a San Francisco theme. They did an expansion of the casino in 2017 when they purchased the La Bayou Casino next door.
It has 122 rooms and suites. Tip: They have some of the smallest hotel rooms in the entire city, unless you book a suite.
They do not have a pool, but hotel guests can visit Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino and they can also use the Circa fitness center.
They have 12,243 square feet of gaming space with 380 slot and video poker machines. In October 2025, they removed their casino pit with live dealers. This also brought the end of dancing dealers at this casino. They now have electronic Blackjack, Craps and Roulette. They also have Circa Sports betting kiosks and a High Limit Slot gaming room.
The Golden Gate uses the Club One loyalty card, which can also be used at Circa and The D Las Vegas (sister properties).
Tip: There are no dining options in the casino since Du-par’s Coffee Shop closed in 2019.

Fun Fact: In 1907 this hotel received the first phone number in Las Vegas “1”.
Fun Fact 2: In 1959, the Golden Gate introduced the first 50¢ Shrimp Cocktail. In 1991, the price was increased to 99¢. It is estimated they served over 25 million from 1959 until 2019, when they stopped serving food.
