
The historic El Cortez Hotel & Casino that has been in Downtown Las Vegas since 1941, announced a $20 Million 10,000 square-foot casino expansion in May, 2024.
The construction walls have been removed and most of the expanded space is now open. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for February 20, 2025.
The expansion includes nearly 200 additional slot machines, two new bars, high-limit slot lounge, new restaurant, higher ceilings and an updated air filtration system.
The two new video poker bars include, Roulette Bar that resembles a roulette table and is located in the former Ike’s Bar space. Show Bar is equipped with a 20-foot video screen for sports and music videos, and a stage for live entertainment. It also has lounge seating.
The new High-Limit Slot Lounge has 42 gaming machines and a 4 seat bar. The former high limit area will now be dedicated to high limit table games.
Also part of the expansion, Hot Noods will be opening soon by chef Po Fai Lam, who operated the former Chinglish Cantonese Wine Bar in Summerlin.
They have also added two new exterior neon signs, one for each of the new bars.
The El Cortez expansion looks great. It brings modern touches to attract younger customers from the Fremont East Entertainment District, while maintaining its historical charm.
They continue have dozens of gaming machines that still take coins and they are a 21+ only property, so don’t bring the kiddos.
