Uniquely Vegas is a series of articles and photos that VegasChanges.com is composing to showcase the many unique and offbeat things to see and do in the Las Vegas Valley, as well as day trips and more.
On this venture we are visiting Downtown Container Park on Fremont Street. Is it worth a visit (see below)?
Downtown Container Park opened in November 2013 and is an outdoor shopping and entertainment complex located on Fremont Street and 7th Street, across from the El Cortez Hotel & Casino. The tenants are housed in 43 shipping containers and 41 metal cubes. There are approximately 22 boutique stores and 13 dining spots and bars.
When you enter, you will be greeted by The Mantis, that is a 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide giant metal sculpture, depicting a praying mantis. In the evenings it throws giant fire flames reaching six stories high from its antennae, accompanied by music from a 4,000 watt surround sound system. It can also speak more than 20 different languages.
Also located at the entrance is the Love Locket, a heart-shaped sculpture made of metal. Visitors are encouraged to attach love locks to the sculpture.
They also have a large stage where adults can relax while enjoying free concerts, movies, and more. Entertainment Schedule
Kids will love the playground featuring The Treehouse, which is an artificial tree that is made out of four shipping containers, with slides and several interactive play panels.
So is it worth a visit? Yes, if you happen to be visiting Downtown Las Vegas or the Fremont Street Experience. It is a great place to support local business owners (there are no chain stores). Kids will love The Treehouse and playground. On select nights, adults can watch free live entertainment and everyone will enjoy The Mantis.
