There was an eerie silence on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas on Sunday March 22 at 8pm. It would usually be packed with thousands of visitors, bands, street performers, dancing DJ’s and Viva Vision light shows on the overhead canopy.
When they say the Fremont Street Experience is closed, they are not kidding. Barriers blocked any access to everything under the canopy. Most casinos kept the neon and other signs turned on. Security was in force. There was a heavy Metro Police presence both Downtown and on the Las Vegas Strip.
It is surreal to see over 150,000 hotel room lights turned off and rooms vacant throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Many of the resorts and casinos are displaying messages on their marquees and other signs (photos below).
