The New Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall is located on the bank of the Colorado River, across from Bullhead City, Arizona in Laughlin, Nevada. It opened in 1979 as the Colorado Club and it has 416 rooms spread out in several motel buildings. The hotel is pet-friendly, has a gift shop, pool and a beach on the river for hotel guests. The theme is the “old west” and their slogan is “Welcome to the Friendliest House on the River”.
The New Pioneer, LLC, assumed ownership on May 1, 2018. The casino closed at that time for several months for a refurbishment. The new owners removed the casino pit, so there are no table games.
The casino is 16,300 square-feet and has some new and older slot and video poker machines. They also have Blackjack, Roulette and Bubble Craps machines and a William Hill Sports Book. They use the Round-Up Club players card.
Fun Fact: The Pioneer in 1986 was the first casino to open a player’s club for slot players in the State of Nevada.
Dining options at the New Pioneer include:
- Bumbleberry Flats (American) Tip: They have some great “made from scratch” menu items at very reasonable prices.This is a must for every Laughlin visitor.

- River Rick’s Pizzeria (Italian)
They have two bars and lounges, the Watering Hole and Sassy Sue’s Saloon with live bands Friday and Saturday nights.
Fun fact: River Rick is the name of the neon sign that resembles a cowboy that was erected at the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall in 1981. River Rick is one of three neon cowboys in Nevada, the others being Vegas Vic and Wendover Will.
Tip: The New Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall has a dock to catch a water taxi. They run seasonally.
